Eliza "LaLa" (Pina) Azevedo, 98, of New Bedford died November 22, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late John M. Azevedo.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Luis Socorro DePina and Maria (Vales) DePina, she lived in New Bedford since 1954.
She was formerly employed by Cornell Dubllier and retired from Julius Koch.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, working in her garden, telling jokes and was known for her sense of humor.
She was proud to help many family members and friends come to America.
Survivors include her son, David Azevedo of New Bedford; a daughter, Beverly Cardoso and her husband Manuel of New Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Karen Azevedo of New Bedford; a sister, Mariana (Pina) Neves of New Bedford; her live in family member and care taker, Mayann Oliver; 12 grandchildren, Tasha, Tiffany, Vanessa, Marcel, Desiree, Julian, Aaron, Jon Paul, Andrew, Michelle, Melissa and Jackie; 17 great-grandchildren, Kyrell, Adam, Milaan, Nancy, Michael, Brianne, Sadie, Peyton, Nigel, Liana, Messiah, Myrielle, Joey, Londyn, Darione, Quincy and Veida; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Pharoah, Liliana-Crystal, Zylas and Alayah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Louis Azevedo and the sister of the late Belmira (Pina) Tavares and Alice (Pina) Goncalves.
Her visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 27th from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Tuesday morning, November 28th her family will receive guests from 10 - 11 AM followed by her Funeral Service at 11 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
