In loving memory of Paul McKeon, who peacefully departed on Saturday, November 18, at the age of 92, surrounded by the warmth of family. Paul was the cherished husband of Lorraine Neylon of Watertown and the son of the late Francis Cyril McKeon and Margaret (Considine) McKeon, both of whom preceded him in death. His siblings Leonard, William, and Claire, along with his first wife Sheila, also preceded him in passing. He will be missed by his three cherished godsons, Robert, Gary, and Michael Hertigan and his dear neighbors in Melrose, especially Tony Giangregorio.
Born and raised in Medford, Paul later called Melrose and Watertown home. A distinguished educator, Paul's legacy is woven into the fabric of Medford Public Schools, where he served as a beloved physical education teacher and athletic trainer. His commitment to nurturing both the body and mind left an enduring impact on the lives of countless students.
Paul served with honor in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, demonstrating bravery and dedication to duty. Paul graduated from UMass, Amherst where he played lacrosse, baseball, basketball and was the assistant trainer. He completed his graduate work at UMass, Boston, then Boston State College.
Paul's sense of humor was legendary. With perfect delivery and timing, he had the remarkable ability to make anyone laugh. His love for jokes and the joy he found in sharing laughter became a hallmark of his personality.
Passionate about sports, particularly baseball, Paul's enthusiasm for the game was infectious. Whether on the field or in the classroom, his love for sports was evident, and he inspired that same passion in those around him.
Paul's affable and personable nature endeared him to many. He had a rare gift for making friends wherever he went, leaving behind a trail of fond memories and lasting connections.
In lieu of flowers, Paul's family kindly requests that you remember a joke he shared with you and pass it along to someone new. In this way, his spirit of laughter and joy can continue to spread, just as he would have wished.
As we bid farewell to Paul McKeon, we celebrate a life richly lived—a life marked by service, laughter, and a genuine love for others. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy that continues to bring smiles to the faces of those who were fortunate enough to share in his joyous spirit.
