Barbara Ann (Fougere) Scully, 92, a longtime Florida resident, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023, in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. She was born on June 22, 1931, in East Douglas, Massachusetts, to Francis and Mary Fougere.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Mary Fougere, husband John C. Scully, Sr. (Jack), daughter Margaret A. Crawford (Peggy), son John C. Scully, Jr. (Jack) and grandson Emmett J. O’ Malley. She is survived by her brother Robert Fougere (Barbara) of Swampscott, MA, her children Kathleen Scully-Hayes (J.D.) of Baltimore, MD, James F. Scully of Southborough, MA, Patricia M. Gleason (Garrett) of Lake Elmo, MN, MaryEllen O’ Malley (Joe) of West Newton, MA, Sue N. Scully-Rose (Tom) of Medfield, MA, son-in-law Michael L. Crawford of Mulberry, IN, daughter-in-law Michele Scully of Vero Beach, FL, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Barbara was a woman who genuinely enjoyed life. Her infectious laugh was known to all who crossed her path. She had a love for reading, traveling, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. An avid reader, Barbara passed on her love for reading to all her children. She was a long-time bridge player and Rummicube expert. She spent long hours playing with any challenger. Barbara generously volunteered throughout the years, giving back to her community. Barbara's zest for life was evident in everything she did.
In her later years, Barbara achieved a cherished goal by earning her college degree from Regis College in Weston, MA, at the age of 60. She was thrilled to have accomplished this lifelong dream.
Barbara was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church of Wellesley, MA, and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, FL, for 30 years. She found solace and community in her faith.
Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley on Monday, Nov. 27 from 4-7pm. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. These causes are close to the hearts of her children, and any support would be appreciated.
Barbara Ann Scully will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, love for life, and dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
