In Taunton, Eugene J. Murphy Sr., age 91, passed away at home on November 20, 2023 following a lengthy illness. Eugene was the husband of the late Yvonne (Morin) Murphy. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Wade) Murphy.
Eugene was a resident of Taunton the past 22 years and was formerly of Westwood and Hyde Park. He attended Taunton schools and served his country honorably during the Korean War while in the U.S. Army. Following the service, Eugene was employed as a Boston Police officer from 1957-1990. He worked as a detective, K-9 officer and also for six years on the bank robbery unit with the FBI. After his retirement he also worked as a security officer for Bay Bank.
Eugene enjoyed golfing, going camping with his wife, watching all sports and was a big Boston College football fan. He also was a regular at the Pub 99 Restaurant in Raynham and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Eugene is survived by his loving children; Eugene "Geno" Murphy Jr. and his loving partner Michele Petersen of Brewster, Joseph Murphy of Hyannis, and Richard Murphy of Taunton. He also leaves his brother William Murphy of Burlington, and his late sister Louise Gentile of CT. Eugene also leaves his beloved grandchildren; Don Petelelle-Murphy of Orleans, Tia Petelelle-Murphy of New Zealand, and John Walsh of New Jersey.
Funeral from the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Thursday, November 30th at 9 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton at 10 am. Relatives and friends are also invited to visiting hours on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. Burial will be in Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 12:30 pm.
