Obituary

CHICOPEE – George Leonard Cramer, 73, passed away in his home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 surrounded by the care and comfort of his devoted wife and loved ones. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 8, 1950, a beloved son of the late Milton D. and Maria (Zaccariello) Cramer. George grew up in Springfield where he had a wonderful childhood. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Private. He received the Vietnamese Service Medal with One Star and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a longtime resident of Chicopee where he raised his family. George was a blue collar worker who never missed a day of work or an opportunity for overtime. George was a good man who was devoted to his family and friends. He was sociable, gave straight forward advice and was fun to be around. He enjoyed playing the lottery and reading the newspaper every day, gambling, watching television and cheering on his favorite team, the New England Patriots. Most of all, George loved spending time with his grandchildren who were his joy and legacy. George leaves his devoted wife, Cynthia (Harris) Cramer who exemplified what a loving wife is especially as she cared for him in his final days. Cynthia was the love of his life who he enjoyed spending time with and was proud of the life they built together. He also leaves his three loving children, Gregory Cramer and his wife, Janet, Pamela Proulx and her husband, Norman, and Rachel Hernandez and her husband, Eric; his four cherished grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa”, twins Nora and Grace Proulx, and Alexander and Penelope Hernandez; his three dear sisters, Linda Cramer, Louise Cramer and Theresa Hanson; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Enrico Cramer. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry, 170 Pendexter Avenue, Chicopee, MA 01013.
