Maria H. (Bettencourt) Lima, 84 of Lowell, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Monday, November 20, 2023 at her home. She was the wife of the late Sidonio P. Lima who passed away in 2001.
She was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on December 1, 1938 and was a daughter of the late Manuel E. Bettencourt and the late Maria G. De Sousa. She was raised in Graciosa, where she attended the area schools.
In 1967 she relocated to the United States with her family, settling in Lowell. She worked as a seamstress at Pleasant Dress and worked as an assembly line worker at Raytheon and various manufacturing facilities in the Greater Lowell Area. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church; and enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her five children, Alfonso R. Lima and his spouse, Debbi of Hudson, NH, Clara N. Raju and her spouse, Bhavindra of Baltimore, MD, Maria N. Schuster of Lowell, Leontina "Tina" M. Lima of Baltimore, MD, and Diamantina "Deanna" Lima of Lowell; her sister Malvina DaSilva of Lowell; her grandchildren, Christie Schuster, Alfons Lima and his spouse, Adrianna, Dylan Lima, Julion Lima, Mason Stasiewicz, Niraj Raju, Rohan Raju and his spouse, Ashley, Vijay Raju, Emily Lima, and Samantha Lima; as well as her great grandchildren, Roman Lima, Aurora Lima. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members including her former daughter in law, Ellen Lima.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, the late Adam Schuster; and her siblings, the late Manuel Bettencourt, the late Crisolinda Silva, and the late Maria Lourdes Ramos.
On Sunday, November 26, 2023 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 2-5 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.
On Monday morning her funeral will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by her funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
