Martha J. Cope, 93, died November 19, 2023, in Anderson, IN surrounded by family. She had been residing at Crown Pointe Senior Living Community.
She was born on July 6, 1930 in Anderson, IN and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the graduating class of 1948 at Anderson High School.
She was a treasure keeper and among her greatest treasures were family, faith, and greeting cards. She married the love of her life, Jack (Coach) in 1949 and from that day forward, she began building a legacy of love. She and Coach spent many of their early days at the baseball diamond with their boys, Jack, Barry and Brian. Countless family dinners later, as the boys grew and started their own families, she was an integral part of the lives of her grandchildren. For years Grama Mart would tote her granddaughters to church where they would sit in the same pew each week munching on Grampa Coach’s Luden’s cough drops. They would go to Frisch’s for lunch, then back to her house for an afternoon of adventure and her beloved chocolate chip cookies. Always their biggest supporter, she traveled near and far to golf, cheerleading and show choir competitions. Later, she would revel in spending time with her great-grandchildren. She and her husband, Jack loved their trips to visit their family in Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. The trips always left Martha with a happy heart. She was a long-time member of the Anderson Alliance Church and loved her church family. She had a servant’s heart and shared her talents with her church community. She was both a sender and keeper of greeting cards. Her address book was a prized possession, brimming with the names of her loved ones. If she loved you, she sent you many. If she received one, she cherished it. Whether it be an afternoon together, a plate of chocolate chip cookies, a spot on her prayer list or a pile of greeting cards, Martha will be remembered for how well she loved.
Survivors include, her sons, Jack Cope (wife, Kitty) of Anderson, IN and Brian Cope (wife, Lee) of Zion Crossroads, VA; grandchildren, Kelly Durr Sexton (husband, Eric) of Lapel, IN, Carly Cope Brenner (husband, Paul) of Indianapolis, IN, Kasey Cope of Anderson, IN, Jaime Cope Hemmick (husband, Kent) of Clio, CA, Cariann Cope of Fishers, IN, Alex Cope (wife, Lauren) of Frederick, MD, and Eric Cope of Charlottesville, VA; great-grandchildren, Regon Brenner of Indianapolis, IN, Madison Sexton, Muncie, IN; Tatum Durr of Lapel, IN, Jax Brenner of Indianapolis, IN and Beau Brenner of Indianapolis, IN; daughter-in-law, Jody Cope Gwinnup (husband, Don) of Anderson, IN; family-in-law, Lois Jean Kilgore of Anderson, IN; nieces and nephews in Middletown, IN, Pendleton, IN, Chattanooga, TN and Rossville, GA; special friends, Wendy and Roger Hopkins and family of Anderson, IN and Dan Russell of Anderson, IN.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. (Jack/Coach) Cope; son, Barry W. Cope; parents, Sadie and Samuel Mosley and brother, M.J. Mosley.

Service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, IN 46012, officiated by Jim Turner of Anderson Alliance Church. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, in Anderson, IN.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
