Bryan Dennis Tangney, 68, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his daughter on Friday, November 17, 2023, following a three year courageous battle with small cell lung cancer.

Born in Boston on March 26, 1955 to the late Helen (Greene) Tangney and Dennis J. Tangney, Bryan was raised in West Roxbury and attended St. Theresa of Avila School and graduated from Boston Technical High School in 1973.

In his glory days, Bryan was a force of an athlete. Some of his greatest athletic accomplishments include being the all-star quarterback and punter for Boston Tech, proudly winning the 1971 SuperBowl Championship. He was also an all-star on the Parkway Little League Tigers team, played on the state championship teams for St. Theresa’s CYO in baseball and basketball, and played third base for Cronin’s Pub championship softball team. Bryan had a passion for golf, and loved playing in the Falmouth Invitational Golf Tournament every year. He looked forward to his annual golf trips with his friends- frequenting Myrtle Beach and Saint Croix.

Bryan was a master carpenter, working for Stonebriar Development and later Frazer Construction. His finish carpentry skills live on in hundreds of households in the area. In 2008 he started working for Boston Water and Sewer Commission, where he was the facilities administrator until his passing.

Bryan was a gentle and kind soul whose companionship and love will be missed by all who knew him. He was a West Roxbury gem, as evidenced by his countless loving friends who brought him so much joy.

His daughter was the light of his life and the center of his universe. His love for her, and his granddaughter, will live on eternally.

Bryan is survived by his beloved daughter Mariah (Tangney) and her husband Alex Barresi, and his cherished granddaughter Elsie, of Clayton, NC. He also leaves behind his most precious sister Paula M. Tangney of Barnstable, MA. As well his niece Katie and her husband Ryan Coholan, of West Barnstable, MA, niece Jillian Miles of Bradenton, FL, and niece Meaghan and her husband Chris Oliva of Hyannis, MA. Bryan also leaves behind his great niece and nephews Avery, Mary, Joey, Matty and Liam. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, MaryLou Hubler of Hyannis, MA, and his favorite dog Yankee, who is most certainly reuniting with him in Heaven.

His family would like to express their profound gratitude to Dr. Jacob Sands and Kristina Kelley, NP of Dana Farber Thoracic Oncology for working tirelessly to find a cure to lung cancer, and allowing Bryan to spend invaluable time with his daughter, granddaughter, and friends.
