Marie T. Murphy
Devout St. William’s Church Parishioner

TEWKSBURY: Marie T. (Powers) Murphy, age 63, a resident of Tewksbury for over 35 years, and former Merrimack Valley Hospice volunteer, passed away at the Lawrence General Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

She was the beloved wife of Stephen E. Murphy, who passed away January 1, 2003, and devoted mother of Timothy S. Murphy, of Charlotte, NC.

Born in Cambridge on April 21, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Powers, Jr. and the late Helen E. (Ward) Powers.

Marie was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1978.

Prior to her illness, she was employed as an Office Manager by the WittKeiffer Executive Search Company.

Marie was a much loved and active member of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury, where she had served as assistant director in the St. William’s Church ACTS community.

In her spare time, she enjoyed taking walks, working on puzzles, traveling to North Carolina to visit her son, trips to Maine with her friends, and hosting Christmas gatherings for her church family.

She will lovingly be remembered for her love of her family, friends, and church.

In addition to her son, she is survived by three sisters, Ellen M. Bent and her husband Russell, Kathleen A. Abrams and her husband Michael, and Anne P. Cronin: her mother-in-law, Dorothy (Burke) Murphy: her sisters-in-law, Susan E. Hickman and her husband George, Nancy J. Campbell and her husband Edward, Elizabeth E. Murphy and her partner Michael Selines, and Julie M. Murphy. She leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Friends are invited to her calling hours on Tuesday, November 21st from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. At Marie’s request, funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation, glioblastomafoundation.org or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, dana-farber.org
