Obituary

Henry Charles Cataldo, II, 66, of Holmes, NY, formerly of Franklin, MA, died on November 14, 2023 in Danbury Hospital following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his children, Henry C. Cataldo, III and his wife Anna V.R. Cataldo of Franklin, MA and his daughter Caitlin A. Cataldo of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his granddaughter Anna P. Cataldo and his sister Donna Taft of Avon, CT.

Born in Milford, MA on December 17, 1956, the son of the late Henry and Virginia (Catalano) Cataldo, Henry was raised in Franklin, MA with his two sisters Anne Marie and Donna. A graduate of Franklin High School, Henry continued on to Norwich University where he majored in Government and History and was a member of the Norwich Football team. Henry went on to earn a Master’s in Education from Norwich and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Education from Harvard University.

Henry retired in June of this year after 40 years in education. He began his career at Worcester Academy in Worcester, MA and subsequently went on to teach, coach, and work at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Minnesota. After 12 years, Henry and his family returned to New England where Henry joined the Wooster School faculty in Danbury, CT. Henry served as the School’s Dean of Faculty, History Department Chair, advisor, coach, and continued to do what he loved most - teach. Henry spent decades teaching middle and high school students to think critically, ask questions for curiosity’s sake, and to purposely act with empathy.

A reader, story-teller, part-time philosopher, family man, keeper of memories and traditions, loyal friend, and a teacher to all who crossed his path, Henry lived a full and rewarding life.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 20 from 4pm- 7pm at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin, MA.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 21 at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, MA at 10am. The Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin, MA at a later date.
