Alice (Graffam) LaNeve-Hill 10/19/36-11/13/23
Alice LaNeve passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023 after a long illness. She was born in Long Beach, California in 1936 as was the daughter of Donald Turner Graffam and Margaret Watson.
She attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA where she met her husband James LaNeve. Alice’s dream to create a family and lasting legacy of love began the moment they met. Together they had seven children and resided in many states throughout the US including Indiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts. Aside from being a beloved wife and mother, Alice also worked as a dental assistant and mentored many people through her dedicated service to the Catholic church, Overcomers for Christ and Al-Annon. In 2015 Alice married Norman Hill who brought her great joy and true love later in life. She very much enjoyed spending time with him, dancing, and playing cards with friends at the Senior Center.
Alice is predeceased by her parents, her husband James LaNeve, her sister Anne Graffam Walker, and her daughter Margaret Anne. She is survived by her second husband Normal Hill, her three sisters Rosemary Cunningham, Carrie Thompson and Angie Weiser, her six children and their spouses; Linda and Greg Kissel, James LaNeve, Thomas and Rachael LaNeve, Timothy and Jackie LaNeve, Margaret and Scott Richardson and Christina and Brent Wasson) her grandchildren; James Kissel, Jonathan Kissel, Heather LaNeve, Kristin Wannemuehler, Katie Callahan, Cassie Immelt, Jeremy Kissel, Melissa LaNeve, Alecia Kissel, Benjamin LaNeve, AJ Atwell, Madeline Sherwood, Matthew LaNeve, David Richardson, and Jacob, John & Julia Wasson as well as sixteen great-grandchildren who hold the spirit of her lasting legacy, as she had always dreamed.
Alice devoted her life to service of others whether that meant leading by example in her faith, caring for her children and family or mentoring those in need as they suffered with grief, disabilities, addiction, and recovery. Her last act of service was to donate her body to science after her passing. A gift of life she intended in the spirit she embodied, of service and loving kindness to others.
A memorial service in honor of Alice will follow at a later date and all who knew her are welcome and encouraged to attend. Details to follow when formalized. Donations may be made in her honor to the charity of your choice or by way of a Random Act of Kindness towards another in need. She passed away on World Kindness Day and would be tickled with the gesture of kindness towards another in her memory.
