Christine Braswell Nichols, 87, of Jesup passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in Tifton. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Screven with Elder Tommy Waters of Jesup, Elder Roland Waters of Screven and Christopher Drake Spearman of Pasadena, California officiating. Mrs. Nichols was laid to rest at Screven City Cemetery.
Born July 27, 1917, in Emanuel County, Mrs. Nichols was the daughter of the late Thomas Early Braswell and Maude Grey Thigpen Braswell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chris Waldron Nichols; and one brother and sister-in-law, Thetas and Phyllis Braswell.
Mrs. Nichols was a graduate of Adrian High School, Middle Georgia College and Georgia Southern College. She was a member of the Wayne County Retired Teachers Association; and she was a former member of the Gordonia Garden Club and the Jesup Garden Club Council. She was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Screven; and she was a member of the Salem Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Neil and Lynn Nichols of Screven and Ned and Jenny Nichols of Jesup; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tyron Spearman of Tifton; and her grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher Spearman of Pasadena, California, Sallie and Oliver Bateman of Macon, Casey Nichols and Shelby Nichols, both of Jesup, Laura Lynn Nichols of Valdosta and Kate Nichols of Screven.
