Chris Edward “Ted” Walker, 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Luke Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Pangle officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday, from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Walker was born November 4, 1941, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Edward Elie & Ruby Rebecca Simmons Walker. He was a 1959 graduate of Irwin County High School and attended South Georgia College, where he played baseball for Bobby Bowden. Mr. Walker received his Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia, in 1971. He was co- owner and operator of Haile Drug Store. He also worked for Big B Pharmacy, CVS, and retired from the Medicine Cabinet. Mr. Walker was 1st Lieutenant in the National Guard and a member of the Irwinville Lodge #315 F.&A.M. He was a pilot, avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed helping others. He cherished his grandchildren and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Fletcher Walker of Fitzgerald; children: Christy Walker Brumfield of Fitzgerald, Rob Walker & Holly of Waterloo and Libba Walker Smith & Michael of Bishop; grandchildren: Gracie Joy Brumfield, Ann Catherine Walker, John Robert Walker, Fletcher Walker, Eleanor Walker, Walker Smith and Whitley Smith; and his “right hand man” Eugene Walker.
