Larry Cook, 75, a friend to so many and always there for you, even when you didn't know you needed him, passed away on November 10th of heart failure.
A Kingston resident with his long-time love Roz Silba, he was born in Dorchester in 1948, a middle child with his older sister Carol Friberg Gravel and younger brother Robert Christopher Cook.
A former UMASS Boston student, followed by service in the Army National Guard, much of his early careers centered around computer programming, as well as was a small business owner in areas such as irrigation systems and as a charter boat captain (Capt. Cook Charters in Quincy/Boston). A Freemason for over 30 years supporting many charitable causes, Larry understood the importance of work / life balance and made time to enjoy it doing his favorite past times including taking summers off for fishing, fall hunting and anything to be part of nature.
Larry would be the first to offer a hand and eager to help anyone however he could. He had an amazing wealth of knowledge and found happiness in sharing it to help and guide others. Everyone he knew would get a call on their birthday and to check in. He rejoiced in other's happiness, but most especially when it included catching a fish. His eyes would sparkle and his smile would be ear to ear as he shared in the excitement of his favorite sport. His passions along with his kind and giving nature led him to Casting For Recovery and Trout Unlimited, where he was a past president and lifetime member with over 30 years of sponsorship with the Southeast MA chapter.
Larry is survived by his long time love Roz, his sister Carol, brother Chris, three sons Mike Cook, Derek Smith, Dan Smith, loved as his own Michelle Silba Murphy, Shannon Seward and Mike Silba Jr, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
