Mariette Y. “Jerry” (Aube) Sylvia, 93, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully November 12, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Alton Sylvia (affectionately known as the “Breakfast King”).
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Aube and Blanche L. (Manny) Aube Ciacci and the step-daughter of the late Joseph Ciacci. She lived in Dartmouth most of her life and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
Among her many loves, Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with her family and cats, and, above all, creating a community around her with her great cooking and natural hostess abilities.
Jerry was an avid reader and well-versed in many subjects, making her an at-home Jeopardy champion. She was sweet and spicy, as well as creative and the best cowgirl singer!
Survivors include three sons, Michael Sylvia and his fiancée Paulina Fernandes, Peter Sylvia, and Danny Sylvia and his fiancée Yun Yi Kim, all of Dartmouth; a brother, Adrien Aube and his wife Pat of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Rebecca Sylvia and her fiancée Spencer Jones, Sean Sylvia, Justin Sylvia and his wife Jill, Jessica Fernandes and Jeanette Fernandes; five great-grandchildren, Robbie and Addie Sylvia, Dominic and Kiyara Fernandes, and Ava Carrasquillo; and two nieces, Suzanne Jacobsen and Barbara Sylvia.
Jerry was the sister of the late Claire Picard and the aunt of the late Nancy Cabral.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 20th at 9:00 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals 495 Park St, New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours will be Sunday, November 19th from 2:00–5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Cats, Lighthouse Animal Shelter, CARE Southcoast, or a shelter of your choice.
