Obituary

LUDLOW – Doris C. (Deroy) Simard, 98, of Ludlow and a former resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, November 12, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at Life Care Center of Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on October 6, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late O’Neil and Amanda (St. Louis) Deroy. She was raised and educated in Chicopee and had lived in Chicopee most of her life. She was employed as a clerk for 17 years at Chicopee Electric Light and retired in 1986. She was former communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and currently was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. She was a longtime volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield. During her leisure time, she enjoyed walking, reading, knitting and spending time at the ocean. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Roger J. “Jim” Simard who was Called Home on April 14, 2023. She leaves her three loving children, Diane A. Kurtz and Robert J. Simard and his wife, Jeanne, all of Ludlow and Donald N. Simard and his wife, Janice, of Severn, MD; her seven cherished grandchildren, Cheryl Schipper and her husband, Derek, of Hanover, Shawn Kurtz and his wife, Cristina, of Cresco, PA, James Kurtz and his wife, Amy, and Timothy Simard and his wife, Christine, all of Ludlow, Nicole Mendes and her husband, Brian, of Chicopee, Jason Simard and his wife, Shelly, of Pasadena, MD and Derek Simard of Glen Bernie, MD; her 21 cherished great grandchildren; her cherished great grandson; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son in law, Roy Kurtz who was Called Home on December 29, 2020; and her eight dear brothers and sisters. Her family will receive friends on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
