Joseph W. Mintel, 71, of York Road, Johnston passed away on Saturday November 11th at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Diane M. (Ruggieri) Mintel.
Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, a son of the late Joseph S. and Stephanie (Dragun) Mintel. He grew up in Seekonk, Massachusetts, later residing in Foster, Rhode Island, and lived in Johnston, Rhode Island for the last 22 years.
He was an Air Force veteran and proudly served his country as a Morse Intercept Operator during the Vietnam War era in Brindisi, Italy, and Taiwan.
Joe had been an Electro-Mechanical Technician for RICOH (formerly IKON) for over a decade before retiring in 2011.
Joe was an avid musician, playing piano and the euphonium. He was a member of the Lafayette Band in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He loved antique radios, Victrolas, and Edison Phonographs. He loved gardening, reading, day trips and road trips throughout New England, especially to Maine. He loved working with his hands, woodworking, and especially making wooden toys for his family members.
Besides his wife he leaves his children, Rebecca McDermott and her husband James of Warwick, Amy Mintel of Danielson, CT, Jacklyn O’Hara and her husband Colin of East Greenwich, and Justin Krakowsky and his wife Courtney of Uncasville, CT. He was the grandfather of Brady, Olivia, Logan, Evelyn, Cortland, Summer, and Jackson.
He was the brother of Mary Burns and her husband Bill of Westport, MA and Jeffrey Mintel of Ocala, FL.
His funeral will be held Thursday November 16th at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visitation will be held Wednesday November 15th from 4-7pm. Flowers are graciously accepted.
