Mary E. (Kunkel) Wanger, age 88, of Middleboro, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully on November 9, 2023 at the Hannah B. G. Shaw Home. She was born and raised in Grantsville, MD, daughter of the late Wesley and Elsie (Hines) Kunkel. Prior to moving to Brockton in 1958, she lived in Lancaster, PA.
Mary worked her whole life, sometimes two jobs to support her family. Upon moving to Brocton she worked for Jack Warrens and later she worked for the Teamsters. In her later years Mary worked at Hajjars’s Big and Tall Clothing Store in Quincy, MA where she loved taking care of her customers.
Mary’s faithful companion for many years was her beautiful Irish setter named Lady.
Mary was an avid reader. She enjoyed mystery and suspense novels and loved NCIS and detective shows. She enjoyed rooting for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She loved music and really enjoyed songs by Patsy Cline. Trips to Foxwoods Resort Casino with her daughter and son-in-law, to play the slot machines, were always a good time. She enjoyed shopping and going to lunch where she always had to play Keno.
She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary was the loving mother of Correen Murray and her husband Edward of Plympton and the late Richard Wanger. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ashley Murray and her fiancé John Merrick, Jason Murray and his partner Kim Zikmund and Adam Murray and his partner Victoria Wallace. She was the great grandmother of Dylan Rauch and Dylan Merrick.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, on Thursday, November 16, from 10 to 11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Brockton.
