Obituary

CHICOPEE – Robert “Bob” McClain, 91, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, November 10, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on November 22, 1931, a beloved son of the late Joseph M. and Rita M. (Peloquin) McClain. He was raised and educated in Holyoke and had moved to Chicopee in 1978. He was employed as an automotive mechanic for 34 years at the former Magna Buick in Holyoke and retired in 1993. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. During his leisure time he enjoyed fishing at Hampton Ponds in Westfield, watching Nascar racing and growing organic vegetables with his wife that he often donated to family, friends and Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry in Chicopee. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife, Jeanne L. (Duplessis) Russell McClain. They were married on November 18, 1977 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving sons, Robert R. McClain of Sturbridge, Kevin G. McClain and his wife, Lois, of South Hadley and Shawn A. McClain of Ware; his three loving step sons, Steven R. Russell and his companion, Brenda Cortina, of Chicopee, Michael D. Russell, Sr. and his wife, Donna, of Port Charlotte, FL and James T. Russell and his companion, Mary Ziemba, of Venice, FL; his cherished six grandchildren, six step grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; his cherished great great granddaughter; his two dear brothers, Earl McClain and his wife, Elsie, and Daniel McClain; his three dear sisters, Katherine Breault, Helen Smus and Linda Beaulieu; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Florence T. (Cote) McClain who was Called Home on September 2, 1976; his loving daughter in law, Elaine; his four dear brothers, Joseph, Jr., Richard, Michael and Leonard McClain; and his five dear sisters, Loretta Sopet, Viola Michon, Rita Durocher, Eileen Plante and Esther Tauscher; his dear brother in law, John Smus; and his three dear sisters in law, Norma McClain, Therese Sarrasin and her husband, Edward, and Claire Foley and her husband, Harold. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Prayer Service on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075, (please meet directly at the cemetery). There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
