Concetto J. “Couchy” Fichera, 100, of Derry, NH died on Thursday November 9, 2023 at his home. Mr. Fichera was born in Lawrence, MA on December 8, 1922, a son of the late Orazio and Concetta (Crimi) Fichera. He had resided in Derry since 1970, formerly living in Lawrence.
Following his service as a TC5 in World War II, Concetto became an electrician and a member of IBEW for more than 75 years, working on a variety of projects from the Boston Subway to Mass General Hospital to Phillips Andover and Rockingham Park restoration. Building a family home in NH, he was a resident of Derry for 52 years. He and his wife, Jan served as volunteers for South Range School. He possessed the inquisitive mind of a tinkerer, a creative problem solver and a lover of puzzles. With his generous spirit he was known as a teacher, especially to his many nieces and nephews.
It was his knack for fixing virtually anything that made him the first call family and friends would make when looking for a solution to an especially tricky problem. An animal lover, a storyteller, a model plane builder, passionate about aviation and space exploration and cooking for family and friends were all hobbies that he shared with his loved ones. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he will be greatly missed by family, extended family and friends.
Concetto is survived by his son, John Fichera and his wife Sarah of Derry, two daughters, Constance Fichera of Wayne, NJ, and Nancy Garcia and her husband Michael of Derry, seven grandchildren, and also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet Fichera in 2001, and also by his brothers, Alfio and Frank Fichera.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday November 16, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry.
