Obituary

Janice Dianne Morris, 72, died Wednesday, November 1, in Lakeland, Florida.

In the early morning hours, the pearly gates were flung wide to allow entrance to this long-expected arrival. She was a loving mother, a devoted sister, a beloved aunt, and an unwavering friend. She was also, most proud to be, daughter of the King.

“I shall behold His face and be satisfied when I awake with His likeness.”
- Psalm 17:15

Janice was born, June 16, 1951, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Jimmy Garland Morris and Evelyn Lucille Tyson. She became involved in politics at a young age, as the Georgia state president of the Future Homemakers of America. She was also a proud member of the Irwin County High School class of 1969.

Throughout her life, Janice had the roles of legal secretary, office manager, receptionist, administrative assistant, flower shop owner, pecan brittle and pound cake master chef, along with many others. In all of these roles, she never wavered in her longing to serve God, or in living her faith by helping others.

“I don’t want to go on living if I can’t go on serving God.”
- from Janice’s prayer journal

Janice is survived by her two sons, Patrick Patterson of Lakeland, Florida, and Bill Patterson of Dalton, Georgia; her two brothers and sisters-in-love, Dennis and Lynne Morris of Young Harris, Georgia, and Johnny and Elaine Morris of Ellijay, Georgia; many cherished nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

“On earth, there are a lot of days and events declared “Homecomings” but none will be like the one when we get to Heaven. I have a body — I am a soul! This soul will rejoice that day!”
- from Janice’s prayer journal

A memorial service and celebration of Janice’s life will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
