Obituary

CHICOPEE – Amelia M. “Mickey” (Santos) Dow Lajeunesse, 82, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, November 9, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on May 1, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Vasco and Antoinetta (Mascolo) Santos. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and moved to Chicopee in 1985 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a longtime secretary at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and was previously the secretary at Sacred Heart School in Springfield. Mickey had a caring heart, reading to the blind, volunteering for various hospice groups, visiting and bringing Holy Communion to shut-ins, and participating in many groups at church. She was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church where she served her parish as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, square dancing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph E. Lajeunesse who was Called Home on March 25, 1995. They were married at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield on August 23, 1985 and were blessed with over nine years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving and devoted children, Charles F. “Chuck” Dow III and his wife, Diane, of Chicopee, Perry J. Dow and his wife, Teri, of Enfield, CT, and Lisa A. Dow of Chicopee; her three cherished grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mema” and “Grandma”, Charles F. “C.J.” Dow IV and his wife, Stephanie, Jessica Dow, and Emily Dow; her cherished great granddaughter, Isabella Rose Dow; her dear sister, Carmela “Cookie” Pietroniro of East Longmeadow; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. She will also be deeply missed by her Jack Russell Terrier, Remi. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Michael Santos and his wife, Pat; and her dear brother in law, Joe Pietroniro. Her family would like to thank Katie and Diane Schreiber and Jamina Zachery for their care and comfort during Mickey’s illness. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
