Stephen L. “Steve” Tomberlin, 72, of Wilcox County, Georgia, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Eastside Holiness Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Rob Merritt and the Rev. Gene Chaney officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, in Ben Hill County, Georgia. The family will receive friends 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Tomberlin was born November 15, 1950, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Roy Lee & Janey Fuller Tomberlin. He served in the National Guard and was a retired business service technician for Windstream. His career in the telephone industry spanned 43 years including General Telephone, GTE, Alltel and Windstream. He loved to ride mules and whistle Dixie. As an avid outdoorsman, he could hunt and fish for a living if necessary. Mr. Tomberlin was a member of Eastside Holiness Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 41 years, taught Sunday school for 12 years and served as secretary/treasurer for 21 years.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 53 years, Debbie Harper Tomberlin of Wilcox County; children: Stephanie Tomberlin Walker of Fitzgerald, Jason & Brittney Tomberlin of Roan Mountain, Tennessee, and Jonathan Tomberlin of Valdosta; grandchildren: Marc Sayer, Macey & Kaleb Smith, Rachel Sayer, Luke Tomberlin, Libbie Tomberlin, Jonah Tomberlin, Hannah Kate Tomberlin, Madison Tomberlin, Hunter Tomberlin, and Rylee Tomberlin; a sister, Teresa & Larry Wheeler of Moultrie; and a brother-in-law, Larry Eidson of Elberton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Eidson and an infant brother, Dennis David Tomberlin.
