William B. Cushing 75, a lifelong resident of Whitman, died Tuesday November 7 in his Whitman home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen M. (Smith) Cushing.
Born in Brockton and raised in Whitman, he was the son of the late Vernon and Erma Cushing and a graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School, Class of 1966.
Bill later furthered his education attending East Coast Aerotech, graduating as an Air Craft Mechanic.
He was a proud Vietnam Veteran of the US Army, having served from 1968-1971, earing a Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star among others.
Prior to his retirement Bill had worked many years as a Casting Technician.
Bill had enjoyed building his “hot rods” and was a member of the South Shore Street Rods, also he enjoyed building and flying his model airplanes and any woodworking projects that came his way. He also loved working around his large yard and gardens.
He treasured the times spent playing his guitar, singing, and sitting on his deck watching the wildlife around his yard with his family and friends, but most of all he cherished being with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Kathleen, he is survived by his children Gregory Cushing and his wife Melissa of Woburn and Amy Desmond and her husband Daniel of Whitman. He is also survived by his grandchildren Benjamin and Melanie Cushing and Alexis and Logan Desmond.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visiting hours on Sunday November 12 from 2-5 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte.58 @ the rotary) Whitman. His funeral service will be held Monday November 13 at 10 AM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery.
