Ausenda F. "Zinha" (Fonseca) Correia, 90, of New Bedford died November 5, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Francisco M. "Tchi Tchi" Correia.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Antonio V. and Isaura (Rebeiro) Fonseca, she lived in New Bedford since 1976.
Mrs. Correia was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
She was formerly employed by Cliftex for many years until her retirement.
Mrs. Correia mostly enjoyed having family around her, going to church, reading her bible and praying for family and friends. She also enjoyed baking, sewing but most importantly she is remembered for her faith. Zinha was a very generous and unselfish person who put everyone first. She also enjoyed having friends over and she delighted in feeding everyone. She was a strong Christian and she instilled the fear of God to her children. She devoted her entire life to serving God, her husband and children. She also enjoyed speaking with her late father nightly on the phone. Lastly, she cared very deeply about her daughters, sons-in-law, sons and daughters-in-law. She loved her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her 10 children, Ismael Correia, Madeline Correia Iraheta, Sarah Correia Gomes, John Correia and Nathaniel Correia, all of New Bedfiord, Esther Correia Brown of Uxbridge, Frank Correia of West Wareham, Jasiel Correia of Fall River, Silas Correia and Oteniel "Tony" Correia, both of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Joaquim "Jack" Fonseca of New Bedford and Richard "Duca" Fonseca of Dartmouth; 2 sisters, Matilde "Tila" Soares and Edith Pereira, both of New Bedford; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ernestina "Nista" Bala, and Maria "Mangan" Tavares; and great-grandmother of the late Alexis Correia and Izabel Taylor.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13th at 10:30 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, November 12th from 2-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
