In 2000, he was recognized as the Best Runner in Cross Country, an early testament to his dedication and tenacity.
After high school, Zane pursued higher education at Valdosta State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, driven by a desire to become an educator and coach. He later expanded his horizons, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Special Education from Jacksonville State University, as well as an Educational Specialist degree.
Zane's heart truly beat for football. From walking onto the Valdosta State University team as a wide receiver to his involvement with Savannah, Georgia's inaugural arena league football program, The Savannah Steam. His unwavering loyalty to the Georgia Bulldogs and his underdog spirit were emblematic of his passion for the game. Beyond playing, he channeled his dedication into coaching and mentoring young athletes. His most recent coaching journey took place at Collins Hill High School in Suwannee, Georgia, where he made notable contributions to football, flag football, and golf, where he excelled himself. Other coaching ventures included track and field, basketball, among many other sports at all playing levels.
Zane's commitment to his players extended well beyond the playing field. His devotion was evident in his accomplishments, including a recent nomination for Teacher of the Year and recognition as Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Zane's ultimate goal transcended athletic achievement; he aimed to shape young lives for success beyond the game.
Adventurous would be an understatement when describing Zane. He lived life to the fullest and embraced every opportunity to explore the world around him. He reveled in outdoor pursuits, from snow skiing and snowboarding to hunting and fishing, always in pursuit of the next thrilling adventure.
