Brenda Upton Sumner, 63, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, November 6, 2023, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Pinetta Baptist Church in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. David Barton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Sumner was born September 10, 1960, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late James Jackson Gibbs, Jr. & Betty Lou Bradshaw Gibbs. She was raised by her grandparents, James & Nassie Gibbs. Mrs. Sumner was the lunchroom manager for the Irwin County School System, and she also loved to do catering. She would cook for everyone and would give her last dollar. Mrs. Sumner especially loved her grandkids. She was a member of Pinetta Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Tony Sumner of Ocilla, Georgia, children: Robert Upton of Ocilla and Jennifer Watson & Ryan of Ocilla; five grandchildren: Raleigh Upton, Bree Upton, Reed Watson, Emily Watson and Harlyn Watson and a sister, Donna Taylor of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Gibbs and her first husband, Robert Charles “R.C.” Upton.
