Obituary

Inez Millicient Kerr Nee-Aldred also known as Betty to immediate family, was born in Kencot Park, St Andrew, Jamaica on June 15, 1927. She was the daughter to the late Walter
George Aldred and Florence Maud Aldred Nee Archambeau. Inez is the fourth child and sister to Roy Edwards, Ivan Aldred, Winston Aldred, Barbara Aldred, Lilith Davis, Carlleigh Aldred &
Adrian Aldred. Inez attended Half Way Tree Primary School and thereafter, Windsor High School, Kingston, Jamaica. Her father worked at Jamaica Railway Corporation as an Accountant, eventually assisting her in acquiring a job in the Accounts Department tasked with the role of bookkeeping, shorthand and typing. Additionally, she worked at the Woolworth in Cross Roads
fixing counters and taking customer’s orders. It was at Railway Corporation she met and later married Herman Sydney Kerr on June 25, 1947 at Holy Rosary, Kingston, Jamaica. They had five
children; Cornel, Astley, Christine, Milton and Janice.

In 1980 Inez migrated to Boston, MA and was employed by Massachusetts General Hospital as a Unit Assistant ordering and stocking items for the floors until she retired. Inez was a very loving, caring and nurturing individual. She loved and adored her family and was always surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was very hardworking and no job was beneath her. She purchased a home that became a long-term safe space to many of her friends and family,
especially on holidays where she made her infamous Christmas cake and sorrel. Subsequently, known as grandma to many of her friends. Her hobbies were baking, crocheting, shopping,
doing crossword puzzles and watching TV, especially timeless movies with her family. Inez was actively involved with her family and daily routine until she became ill this year. Despite her illness, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren continued to rally around her taking care of her. Our loving Inez went home to be with Lord on Sunday 11/05/2023. To be in Inez’s presence was a place of comfort. She was filled with wisdom and infamous humor. She taught many how to bargain while shopping, never left us without a timeless joke, and was not afraid to tell the truth. Even though she appeared at times to have a hard shell, you always saw her soft heart shining through. This was evident when she served, loved, and cared for her family. Inez’s legacy will always live on through her family.

She’s survived by her five children, one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, three sisters-in- law, 15 grandchildren (one deceased), 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a
whole host of nieces and nephews.
