Obituary

Sara Mary (Covello) Massa, 102, a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Center, died peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA, after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Massa, who died 2007 after 65 years of marriage.

She was born in Boston, on February 3, 1921, the daughter of the late Paul Covello and the late Mary (Ialuna) Covello and was educated in that area. She was a graduate of South Boston High School with the class of 1938. She devoted her life to raising her family, and in her later years, became active at the Tewksbury Senior Center. She enjoyed bingo, and time spent with friends at the Center.

Mrs. Massa was a communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington. She also enjoyed playing bingo, reading, traveling and she loved to cook. In addition to her life's work of raising her family, she also worked as a cook for about a year at the former Pewter Pot restaurant.

She is survived by her three children, Joseph Massa Jr. and his wife, Mary (Wilson) of Derry, NH, Joanne Lambert and her husband, Laurence of Lowell, and Lorraine McNamara and her husband, Robert of Westminster; her grandchildren, Anne Massa of Northwood, NH, Ellen Cabral and her husband, Todd of Hampstead, NH, Joseph A. Massa and his wife, Tracy of Billerica, Thomas P. Massa and his wife, Kelly of Medford, Christine E. Haskell of North Chelmsford, Brian Haskell and his wife, Jennifer of Farmington, NH, Shawn Lambert of Hudson, NH, Michael Lambert and his wife, Carli of Leominster, Melissa A. Meagh and her husband, Michael of New City, NY.

Additionally, she is survived by her great grandchildren:  Douglas Chambers, Hannah and Sam Parker, Sara and Hailey Meagh, Ian Cabral, Weston and Cora Lambert, Rory and Finnegan Haskell, Ellie and Aaron Massa, Maggie and Lizzie Massa, and Mia Senneville, plus many nieces and nephews.

On Wednesday, November 8, 2023 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, 978-851-2061. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a procession to Tewksbury Cemetery for committal prayers and burial.
