Obituary

Salem - Annette I. Tache, 99, of Salem, passed away peacefully at The Lafayette in Marblehead with her family and friends by her side on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was the loving wife of the predeceased Norman C. Tache, with whom she shared 77 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Leah (Leblanc) Tondreau. After being a veritable “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II, Annette and Norman managed the Kennedy Butter and Egg Store on Essex Street in Salem until their first retirement. Following years traveling the country with her husband and friends, she came out of retirement and breathed new life into the Salem Witch House, calling herself the (un)Official Witch of Salem for almost two decades.

Annette was known as a classy lady and the consummate hostess, always welcoming to one and all. Meticulously attired, perhaps with a jaunty beret or scarf, she was devoted to her husband, large extended family, as well as her many friends. Annette had a quick wit - both in English and in French - and a sharp mind honed by many years of daily crossword puzzles and ravenous reading of history books.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith A. Tache of New Hampshire, Leanne M. Francis and husband Scott P. of Salem, her son Dr. Daniel E. Tache and wife Kathlyn of Appleton, WI, nephew Kenneth Tache and niece Jeannine (Tache) Ofilos, both of Salem. She also leaves 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many more nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Annette was predeceased by two sons, Peter and Thomas Tache; three siblings, Robert Tondreau, Claire Osborne, and Korean War veteran George Tondreau.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. (Route 114/1A), Salem, on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Monday, November 13, at Ste.
