Obituary

Elizabeth B. (Byrne) Mahoney, 96 of Worcester passed away Thursday, November 2nd at Christopher House. She leaves three daughters, Kathleen Dolan of Colorado, Deborah Turner and her husband, Stephen of Charlton, and Patricia Diaz and her husband, Luis Jr. of Worcester; eleven grandchildren, Melissa Maroney, Michael Dolan, Thomas Dolan, Timothy Dolan, Jennifer-Lynne Whelan, Ryan Turner, Kevin Turner, John Turner, Matthew Diaz, Joshua Mahoney, and Shawn Mahoney; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John Mahoney in 2006; her son, Stephen Mahoney; two brothers, John Byrne and James Byrne; three sisters, Marie Dio, Irene Berthiaume, and Rita Leary; and a grandson, Brian Diaz.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of John and Mary (McTigue) Byrne. Betty graduated from Ascension high school and then worked as a telephone operator at New England Telephone for many years. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish. Betty enjoyed watching the Red Sox and spending time with her family. She loved to travel, especially the yearly vacations to Hampton Beach with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff on the Putnam unit at Christopher House for their care of Betty over the last five and a half years. A special thank you to Marceau, the nurse manager and her PCA, Sheila who provided her with loving care during that time.

Her funeral will be on Tuesday, November 7th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue to Our Lady of the Angels Parish, 1222 Main Street with a mass beginning at noon. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. Her calling hours will be on Monday, November 6th from 4:00pm until 6:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Parish, 1222 Main Street Worcester, MA 01603.
