Obituary

Vincent J. Pizzano, 94, of Derry, NH, died Thursday, November 2, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Methuen, MA on September 3, 1929 and was the son of the late Vincent and Elvira (Lombardi) Pizzano. He had been a resident of Derry since 2019, formerly living in New Port Richey, FL, and Weymouth, MA.

Vincent, fondly known as Pete, graduated from Boston College in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army and was assigned to the Seventh Army in Baumholder, Germany as an artillery officer. He was honorably discharged in 1955, and in June that same year, he married the love of his life, Alice (Sylvester) Pizzano. Later that year, he began his teaching career in Lisbon, NH. The following year, he and Alice moved to Massachusetts where he began teaching math in Braintree.

He earned his master’s degree from Bridgewater State College in 1963. He loved teaching and communicated with many of his former students throughout the years. After retirement, he and Alice were active in the RV’ing community. They enjoyed many years of traveling in their RV and visited 49 of the 50 states. He often joked that they would have visited all 50 states if only a bridge had been built connecting Hawaii to the mainland.

He is survived by his son, Vincent R. Pizzano and his wife Patricia of Hanson, MA; two daughters, Marie E. Trudel and her husband George of Derry, and Laurie A. Pizzano and her wife Lori of St. Petersburg, FL; four granddaughters, Melissa Samaro, her husband Joseph and son Benjamin, Stephanie Vita, her husband Vincent and son Vincent “Jamie”, Margaret Mason, and Rosemary Trudel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice, in 2022, and his siblings, Pasquale Pizzano, Anthony Pizzano, Clementine Pellegrino, Adeline Cataldo, and Mary Pellegrino.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 6th at 11:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry, NH.
