Lorraine C. (Francis) Maciel, age 89, beloved wife of Walter S. Maciel since 1953 and a longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital
Lorraine was born in Cambridge, MA on August 7, 1934, daughter of the late Florence (Francis) Doonan and Lawrence Francis.
She was a devoted Mother and homemaker who thoroughly enjoyed raising her five children which she believed was her most important role in life. When circumstances warranted it, however, she worked the night shift at "Sweetheart Plastics" in Wilmington, MA and "Conley's Pizza" in Tewksbury for a three-year period until the family vehicle was totaled in a car accident. She was a very talented woman who wore many hats and did volunteer work whenever she could, which included the "Fish Program" for the First Baptist Church in Tewksbury which helped arrange services for people in need, and she served on the Committee to redesign the Shawsheen and Main Street intersection in Tewksbury to alleviate traffic concerns.
She devoted a big part of her life to home schooling her special needs' son, Michael, which allowed him to live a more independent and productive life. She was a devout Christian, who dedicated her whole life to serving God, her family and others. If someone needed a helping hand, she was always willing to do what she could, whether it was sharing her budgeting skills to help someone get their finances in order; caring for children, or just lending a listening ear. She most especially enjoyed reading her favorite book, the Bible, which was a great inspiration to her and a great source of comfort during the many challenges she faced throughout her life. She also had a very creative side and enjoyed working on her crafts. She was a thoughtful, selfless, caring woman who will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Walter Maciel of Tewksbury, she is survived by her three sons, Walter Maciel, Jr., and his wife, Alison, of Daytona Beach, FL, Brian Maciel and his wife, Jean, of Sanbornton, NH, and Michael Maciel of Tewksbury; and her two daughters, Audrey Maciel and Sheryl Maciel of Tewksbury.
In addition to her parents, Florence Doonan and Lawrence Francis, she was predeceased by her brothers, Merrill, Lawrence and Kenneth Francis, and Wayne Arthur Correa.
On Monday, November 6, 2023 all are welcome to attend her graveside funeral service at 11 a.m. at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury.
