LAMONT H. GROMLEY OBITUARY
Lamont “Pap” Harry Gromley, 97, of Starford, PA entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 from his home.
The son of Guy W. and Rena (Stumbaugh) Gromley, he was born on May 13, 1926 in Seward, PA.
Lamont served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944-1947 earning the rank of PFC.
He was a proud U.S. Veteran and was very proud of his five grandsons: John Leamer, Michael Leamer, Jason Gromley, Nathan Mumau and Jeffrey Gromley, Jr. and his three great grandsons who served in the military.
He married the former Priscilla B. Huey on February 2, 1946 and they shared almost sixty-two years marriage until her death on January 4, 2008. Lamont faithfully attended the Two Lick Baptist Church in Dixonville, PA.
Lamont’s first love was farming and he was known for his beautiful gardens. He worked as a coal miner and was an underground mine foreman at Penn Hills. He also worked as a logger for Jake Bash. Prior to his retirement at the age of 79, he was a school bus driver for thirteen years driving bus #7 for the Purchase Line School District.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and member of the East Run Sportsmen Club. Lamont enjoyed going coyote hunting with his friends, gardening and sitting on his porch having “Miller Time” with his neighbors. He loved that his porch was a neighborhood gathering place.
Lamont is survived by his children: Linda Leamer of Commodore, PA; Sherry Bernard and husband Terry of Indiana, PA; Doris Jean Helman and husband Donald of Indiana, PA; Marvin Gromley and wife Bonnie of Starford, PA; Jeffrey Gromley and wife Deb of Starford, PA; Cynthia Hampton and husband Scot of Summerhill, PA; his twenty-three grandchildren; his 70 great grandchildren; his 16 great great grandchildren; his 3 great great great grandchildren that are on the way; his siblings: Ruby Sheesley of Clymer, PA; Dalvin Gromley of Marion Center, PA; Hope Sarnovsky of Clymer, PA; his close friends and neighbors Rick and Diann Miller and his caregiver, Jeanette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Priscilla; his son-in-law Karl Leamer; his daughter-in-law Roxanne Gromley; his grandson: Lamont Marvin Gromley, Jr; his great granddaughter: Bellina Rose Kromer; his step granddaughter: Charlotte Bernard and his sister: Lila Cessna.
Family and friends will be received from 4-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. Viewing will continue at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, November 3, 2023 with Pastor Calvin Duvall officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Clymer American Legion. Interment will be at East Mahoning Cemetery in Purchase Line, PA.
