Obituary

CHICOPEE – Jean “JP” Denoncourt, 95, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 30, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at the Orchard Valley Assisted Living in Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife and family. He was born at home on Exchange Street in Chicopee on June 24, 1928, the beloved son of the late Alpha and Lucienne (Lapierre) Denoncourt. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School in 1946, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon returning home, JP served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard in the 104th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard at Barnes Airport in Westfield. He was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis and served in administration, supply, and personnel before serving as the First Medical Technician, a position he held until December of 1987 and received the Air Force Commendation Medal. While stationed in France, he dreamed of having a medical dispensary back at Barnes. With the help of others, his dream came to fruition with the completion of a 12 room dispensary. He retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after 40 years of military service. Following JP’s career, he enjoyed working on his home. He remodeled homes with his son, Rick, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who was at need. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, and gardening, especially around his beloved home. Most of all, he was a kind and generous man who loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Jeanne D. (Mercier) Denoncourt. They were married on May 6, 1950 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 73 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving and devoted children, Rick Denoncourt of Granby and Linda M. Davis of Weare, NH; his two cherished grandchildren, Aaron A. Davis and his wife, Amber, of Enfield, CT and Abby M. Sales and her husband, Aaron, of Suffield, CT; his two cherished great grandchildren, Layla and Trey Sales; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving son in law, Jack Davis who was Called Home on September 4, 2019; and his three dear brothers, Donald, Robert, and Gerry Denoncourt; and his five dear sisters, Patricia Scalero, Yvette Ouellette, Lorette Trznadel, Doris Winnette, and Therese Courtney. His Funeral Services will be held at a later date with inurnment with United States Marine Corps Military Honors at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
