Betsey Lynn Scheets, age 66, passed away on October 29, 2023, after three
years of being on notice that she was dealing with stage four breast cancer.
Fortunately, her oncologist, Dr. Joshua Rosenberg kept her ready for life's
adventures, including several trips with family and friends, and her son's wedding
in April 2023.
She was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Burton Earl Bridge Jr. and Mary McAteer
Bridge in 1957. The youngest of three children, she graduated from Thomas
Jefferson High School in Pleasant Hills, PA in 1975, and from West Virginia
University in Morgantown, WV in1980 with a degree in Landscape Architecture.
Upon graduation, Betsey moved to Oakview, CA to stay with her brother and
sister-in-law, where she started work as a landscape architect in Ventura. Soon
she met her future husband, Richard David Scheets. They married in November
1982, settled in Camarillo and raised two wonderful children - Rianna and
Brandon. Betsey worked part-time as a landscape architect, but her primary job
was always caring for her family. Once both kids were out of high school, she
spent several years doing residential landscape design work through a local
nursery. Later she worked in native plant restoration in the Santa Monica
Mountains, which gave her great satisfaction.
Betsey is survived by her husband Rick, daughter Rianna Moening (Dan) of Fort
Wayne, IN, son Brandon Scheets (Samantha) of Simi Valley, CA, brother Burr
Bridge (Debbie) of Fort Collins, CO, sister Barbara Bridge of Pittsburgh, PA,
brother-in-law Stephen Scheets (Dawna) of Hanover, IN, sister-in-law Janet
Scheets of Ventura, CA, nephew Ben Bridge of Denver, CO and niece Jeana
Mudd (Nathan) of Aurora, IN and six grand nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her father, Burton Earl Bridge Jr. (Dorothy Brill) and mother
Mary McAteer Bridge, and her wonderful in-laws, David and Louise Scheets.
Being a life-long plant lover, the family would request that in lieu of flowers, you
might consider planting a tree in her memory through an organization such as
Tree People (treepeople.org) or even in your own backyard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291
Anacapa Drive on November 11, 2023 at 11:30AM followed by reception.
