HENNESSY, Bernard J. (Bernie) of West Wareham, formerly of Plymouth, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the age of 90.
Born in 1933, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Luke) Hennessy and the step-son of William Collette. He grew up and was schooled in Springfield MA and graduated from Boston College. Bernie is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Catherine E. (Hirl). He was also the devoted husband of the late Teresa (Hood) for eighteen years.
He leaves behind his loving children, Timothy and his wife, Debra (Dempsey), Cathleen and her husband, Philip Summers, Patricia and her husband, Roger Shepherd and Matthew and his wife, Jennifer (Reid). He was the proud and loving grandfather of ten grandchildren: Trevor and Alyssa and great granddaughter Teresa Hennessy, Clayton and Toni Hennessy, Brandon and Kirsten Hennessy, Kaitlin (Summers) and Ian Follansbee, Meghan (Summers) and Sean Ryan, Connor Summers, Brian Shepherd and Autumn, Corey, Devin, and Andy and Emmalee Shepherd. Bernie is the brother of Patricia Ann Larson (Lowell) and the late Margaret Allen (Robert), Henry (Dorothy), and Lucille Tiraterra. He had many nieces and nephews who loved him including Catherine’s nephew Christopher Hirl, his wife Veronica and their son Samuel Hirl who are loving and devoted second children and grandnephew.
He enjoyed the friendship of neighbors and friends in Sudbury, and Plymouth. Especially his best and loyal friend Albert (Fran) Cote and his wife Betty and his long- time “poker group." Also missing Bernie is his grandpuppy, Ronni. Bernie had a long career in the purchasing field including BID Hospital Boston, Hebrew Rehab Ctr., Middlesex County and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA).
He was active and honored for his tireless work with NESCON where he was inducted into the 2014 Hall of Fame and the Purchasing Management Association of Boston (PMAB) where he made many valued friends in the field. Cremation and a private burial were Bernie’s wishes. Should you wish to contribute in his memory, Shriners Hospital for Children was a particular favorite.
