Louis (Lou) Salvatore Quercia Jr., 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 27, 2023.
Born to the late Susan (Lepore) and Louis Salvatore Quercia Sr. on September 20, 1938 during the great New England hurricane. Lou grew up in East Boston and later lived in North Reading where he raised his family before moving to Tewksbury where he resided the last 25 years.
He is a graduate of Boston English High School class of 1957 where he played Varsity Ice Hockey.
After high school, he served in the United States Coast Guard.
His professional career began as a computer programmer and eventually lead to technology consulting. He then went on to start his own business, first Programming Resources and then Ironside Associates.
Lou was very involved as a coach in the North Reading youth hockey program and was also a volunteer for North Reading Boosters.
Lou is survived by his devoted wife, Jane (Abbott) Quercia, his son Mark and wife Stephanie Quercia, daughter Kimberly Leone and her husband, Stephen, and son Greg Quercia. Lou (Grampy) will also be missed by his adoring grandchildren, Jessica, Jacquelyn and Michael Leone and Danielle and Matthew Quercia. He also leaves his older brother, Anthony V. Quercia and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lou will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and his love of family.
His favorite past time was cooking and creating new recipes for his family and friends. He enjoyed gathering around the table and began each meal with a prayer of thanks for all our blessings and would always raise a glass to the First Responders and to the Troops. His other favorite past times were attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He also loved golfing, Foxwoods and watching the New England Patriots.
He will be greatly missed by all who and knew and loved him.
Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 3rd, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Saturday, Nov. 4th, at 9 a.m. at the funeral, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothy’s Church, cor. of Main & Harnden Sts., Route 38, Wilmington.
