Gerald Kutcher, 91, a longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away on Sunday, October 29 at his residence.
He was a Member of IEEE for 22 years and of Toastmaster’s International for 2 years, he served as a past president for both orgnizations.
Gerald was born on May 5, 1932 in Dorchester. He received his undergraduate schooling at Franklin Institute in Boston, Graduate studies at Lowell Tech. he was also a former member of the Tewksbury Zoning Board for 5 years.
Jerry started his career as a field engineer for IBM, traveling all over the country including an assignment in Alaska. After IBM he went on to work at Inforex, Kurzweil Computer Products /Xerox, Hologic, and the Judge Rottenburg Center where he worked for almost 23 years before retiring at the age of 87.
Jerry was a lifetime New England sport fan. His passion for the Patriots began when he attended the grand opening night for the NE Patriots at the “new” Schaefer Stadium in 1971 and was just as strong 31 years later when he attended the opening night at the new Gillette stadium in 2002, to watch the first banner go up.
Another ”oh boy, oh boy, oh boy” memory was attending the ’99 home run derby followed by the Major-League All-Star game at Fenway Park with his son Brad.
Jerry proudly served 3 years in the United State Navy aboard the USS Dyess and attended almost every reunion with his old shipmates.
Jerry loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. No matter where Zady was in the audience, everyone in the room, rink, stadium or field knew who he was cheering for. His passion for life and pride for his family was undeniable and could not be contained.
Jerry was also a life long runner, who in his younger days competed in numerous races often times running side by side with his daughters. When the time came to move from street to treadmill, Jerry joined the local gym becoming friends with the owner who recognized and encouraged Jerry’s ambition to stay healthy. Jerry also loved a good competition whether it was against his kids, grandchildren, or even playing basketball with the neighborhood kid, he never thought he was too old to join in.
Most of all Jerry loved his family and friends. He never missed time to be with his large family and loved all members of his family and extended family and friends and neighbors who were like family. Jerry had close relationships with all his children, as well as his sons in-law and daughters in-law Tom, Shaun, Kim and Ellen.
Jerry will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
Jerry was predeceased by the love of his life and best friend Mary Kutcher with whom he shared almost 50 years together.
He is survived by his children Bruce Kutcher and his wife Ellen, Bradley Kutcher and his wife Kimberly Kutcher, Janet Horgan and her husband Thomas Horgan, and Jill McCarthy and her husband Shaun McCarthy, and as well as his Grandchildren; Michael, Jackie, Caitlin, Nicholas, Dan, Mathew, Caroline, Delaney, and Timothy.
He is also survived by his sisters in law June Costello, Dorothy Marshall, and Nancy Marshall and brother in law Paul Marshall as well as his many beloved nieces and nephews.
