Obituary

Gwendolyn W. (Paul) Skinner, 96, of Fairhaven died Friday, October 27, 2023 at home, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Austin P. Skinner.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antone Paul and Marjorie (Lees) Preece, she lived in Fairhaven for most of her life.

Gwendolyn attended New Bedford High School and then was employed at Continental Screw Company until she left to raise her family.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Church Women's Club, Fairhaven Mothers' Club, Star in the East Lodge, Ivy Circle of New Bedford, and the New Bedford Women's Club.

Gwendolyn enjoyed attending luncheons with her many clubs, bowling, reading, and spending time by the pool with her family.

She is survived by her children, Jane E. Garcia; Paul A. Skinner and his wife Florence, David A. Skinner and his wife Rosalind, and Susan W. Lopes and her husband Matthew; her brother, Richard Paul; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Joan K. Miller; her grandson, David Leonard Skinner; three siblings, Elmer Paul, Stanley Paul, and Margaret (Paul) Montigny; and her son-in-law, Earl Garcia.

Gwendolyn’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association for the compassionate care provided to her.

Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 3, 2023 at 11 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 133 School St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett.
