FALL RIVER… Richard E. Proulx, age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Catholic Memorial Home.
A lifelong resident of the city, Richard was son of the late William and Lottie (Stinton) Proulx. He was the widower of the late Patricia Ann (Hartnett) Proulx.
Richard was a graduate of Durfee High School. He worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for nearly 32 years before his retirement in 1999. Richard was a proud member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was known as an avid sports fan and loved to play, watch, and coach a variety of sports. In his youth, he played baseball and basketball, then later went on to coach Little League in Fall River, as well as CYO for Immaculate Conception. Richard loved bowling and had belonged to a league. He also enjoyed cycling to stay active. He loved to watch all manner of sports on TV, especially New England teams. Richard loved time spent with his family and friends, especially his children and granddaughter. He loved animals as well and had many fond memories of his favorite dog, Louie.
Survivors include: son, Dennis N. Proulx of New Bedford, MA; daughter, Karen L. King and her husband Craig King of Berkley, MA; brother, William Proulx of Westport, MA; granddaughter, Kayleigh King and her husband Simon Costakos of Fall River, MA; nephews, Ron Proulx, Jim Proulx, Steve Proulx, and David Monast; and niece, Sara Hartnett. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, the late Dorothy Monast, and his niece, the late Melissa Hartnett.
Funeral services to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at South Coast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, MA 02723, followed by interment at Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 8 AM to 10 AM prior to the service in the funeral home.
