Barbara (Atcherley) Ochs, age 82 died peacefully on October 27, 2023 with her family by her side. Barbara was born to the late Grace (Leitch) and Robert Vincent Atcherley and raised in Winthrop, MA. Barbara graduated from Winthrop High School in 1958 and the Chandler School for Women in 1960.
Barbara was married for 57 years to the love of her life, James (Jimmy) Ochs (BFD) and they settled in West Roxbury where they spent their years together. Barbara had a long career as a legal secretary, working for many years for James and Tom McCusker in Boston. After retirement, she worked as a special education clerk at the Lyndon K-8 School in West Roxbury. Barbara enjoyed spending vacation time with her family and friends on Cape Cod and in North Conway. Barbara was an avid Boston sports fan. She loved going to Bruins games as a season ticket holder for over 50 years. On Sundays, you could always find her watching the Red Sox and Patriots at the Tiki Bar at Port Norfolk Yacht Club.
Barbara is survived by her husband James and daughters Pamela Ochs-Piasecki and her husband James of Walpole; Deborah Rooney and her husband Michael of Westwood; five grandchildren Andrew and Alexandra Piasecki and Shannon, Liam and Kyle Rooney; her brother Robert Atcherley and his wife Mary Ellen Dugan of Hopkinton; Jimmy’s sister Geraldine Peterson of East Bridgewater, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours at the Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA 02132 Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 4pm-8pm. Funeral mass Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Theresa of Avila Church 2078 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA 02132 followed by burial at Cedar Grove cemetery in Dorchester, MA.
