LIMINGTON- Surrounded by her family, Etta Edith Lewis passed away on October 27, 2023, in her Limington home from
kidney disease.
Born on March 28, 1950, to Donald “Arnold” Towers and Ruth Harvey, Etta was one of 11 children. She grew
up in Belfast, Maine and graduated from Thomaston High School in 1969. She moved to Portland, Maine to
attend college at the Andover Institute of Business, now Kaplan University.
While at college Elwood “Sunny” Lewis set Etta up on a blind date with his brother Wayne on May 1, 1970.
Wayne and Etta fell in love and were married on October 17, 1970. They would go on to have three children
Katherine Ann in 1971, Wayne Jr. in 1972, and Patricia Hope in 1974. In 1974 they built their home in
Limington, Maine.
Etta was a CNA for 10 years, before returning to college and earning her accounting degree. She finished off
her career as an accounts-payable bookkeeper at York-Cumberland Housing, in Gorham, Maine.
She was a founding member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Limington, helping to build the church.
She ran the Dorcas program for the church which provided food, clothing, and necessary items for the
surrounding communities. Later she joined the East Limington Baptist Church.
Etta enjoyed taking rides and her favorite drive was to the Mount Washington area in New Hampshire and
driving the Kancamagus Highway. She was passionate about plants, flowers, and gardening. You could always
count on having a jar of pickles when Wayne and Etta were planting their garden. She loved spending time with
her grandchildren.
Etta is preceded in death by her parents Donold and Ruth, brothers Harold and Chester Towers; her sister
Barbara Smith; as well as her youngest child Patricia.
Etta is survived by her husband Wayne Sr., daughter Katherine, son Wayne Jr., and daughter-in-law Hilary
McDonald Bush. Her grandchildren Phillip Lewis, Jonathan Lewis and, his wife Amanda Lewis, Kaitilyn
Bernier, Malia Williams Bush-Lewis, and Nathan McDonald Bush-Lewis. As well as her sisters Sheila Beldon,
and Patsy Cartwright; brothers Donald Towers, William Towers, and Ronald Towers, and her Brother-in-law
Alberton “Junior” Smith Jr. and his wife Cheryl Smith. As well as many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
There will be graveside services on November 8,2023 at 2pm at the Limington Village Cemetery on Pine Hill
Road in Limington, Maine. Please come and celebrate her life with her family. There will be a gathering
afterward at her home
