CHICOPEE – Robert L. Fortier, 69, of the Fairview section of Chicopee and a longtime resident of Granby, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life from the Pioneer Valley Health and Rehabilitation in South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on June 3, 1954, the beloved son of the late George L. and Mary E. (Purcell) Fortier. He was raised in Granby, graduated from Granby High School and lived in Granby for many years before moving to Chicopee in January of this year. He was a heavy truck mechanic at Pleasant Street Auto and Heavy Truck Repair in Belchertown. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Robert loved to have a good time with his family and friends and will truly be missed by all. He leaves his three loving children, Robert L. Fortier II and his wife, Jessica, of Springfield, Shelly M. Fortier of Holyoke, and Nicole Zayes Manzano and her husband, Jose Manzano, of New York; his four cherished grandchildren, Isabella “Izzy” Manzano, Tre Demers, Joseph Rosati, and Gauge Fortier; his three dear siblings, William Fortier and his wife, Marie, of Crestview, FL, Jean E. Walker of Chicopee, and John Fortier of California; his former wife, Addi Zayas Fortier of Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two dear brothers, George P. Fortier and Donald E. Fortier. His family will receive friends on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear. His funeral will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 beginning at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
