Obituary

Ann Marie “Nancy” (Costello) McCarthy, 89 of Franklin, died at home surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. She was the wife of the late John H. McCarthy.

She was born in Hyde Park, MA on July 18, 1934. Daughter of the late Lawrence and Katherine (O’Connor), siblings Mary Malsbenden, Jeremiah, James, and Lawrence Costello.

Raised in Hyde Park, MA where she met and married her “Perfect Match” John H. McCarthy on January 5, 1957. They moved to Franklin, MA in 1964 where they raised their 6 children Patricia Hauck, of Taunton, John M. McCarthy, wife Wendy of Osceola, WI, Mary Ellen Assad, husband Ken Assad of Franklin, Nancy Lee Wasnewsky, husband Thomas of Medway, and Paula Savini, husband Peter of So Yarmouth, and Robert Ballou husband of late daughter Sharon McCarthy-Ballou of Foxborough. They were her pride and joy.

She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as brother-in-law Brian McCarthy and his wife Cindy of Norwood. She was the sister-in-law of the late Joan Brunelli and her husband Roger.

She was never afraid to speak her mind. She could often be found having fun with her friends and family. She cherished her lifelong friends from Hyde Park and often told happy memories of growing up on Thompson Street. She loved summering in Maine at Granger Pond Campground. Going up to Maine was only a 3-hour drive but took Nancy 5 hours since she stopped at every yard sale and her favorite store Renys.

She worked numerous jobs while raising her family. She worked nights for the Tupperware company and ended her career as a manager for BayBank’s Payroll Department. Nancy was also the past President of the Alden Club.

She always said, “she was lucky to have the life she lived.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Tuesday, October 31st at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. www.oterifuneralhome.com, with a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Sq. at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours are Monday, October 30, from 4-8PM.
