Obituary

CHICOPEE – Virginia A. “Jenny” (Peck) Masse, 87, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Worcester on October 14, 1936, a beloved daughter of the late Frederick W. and Lillian G. (Katon) Peck. She was raised and educated in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. She was employed as a Dietary Assistant for the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke and retired in 1998. She previously was employed for many years at A.G. Spalding in Chicopee. She enjoyed camping at Sunset View Campgrounds in Monson, playing canasta with her daughter, Donna and trying her luck at bingo games. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Donald F. “Don” Masse who was Called Home on December 27, 2021. They were married on June 5, 1954 at Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, Steven A. Masse and his wife, Cynthia, of Chicopee, Brenda Lee M. McDonald and her husband, Douglas, of Fitchburg and Donna M. Montemagni and her husband, Jon, of Chicopee; her two loving daughters in law, Betty Masse of Chicopee and Melody Masse of Indian Orchard; her 16 cherished grandchildren, 30 cherished great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; her dear brother, Robert Peck of Chicopee; her dear sister, Lillian Roux and her husband, Howard, of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. She will also be deeply missed by her furry companion, her cat, Cuddles. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two beloved sons, Kevin M. Masse and Gary S. Masse; her two dear brothers, Leonard Peck and Frederick Peck, Jr.; her dear sister, Dorothy Guilmain; her dear brother in law, Robert “Sonny” Masse; and her two dear sisters in law, Joan Mattern and Shirley Fontaine. She was also recently predeceased by her beloved dog, Peanut. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
