Sheridan, Joan D. (D’Arcy) of Needham and Falmouth, October 24, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Hugh B. Sheridan. Devoted mother of H. D’Arcy Sheridan of Needham, John P. Sheridan and his wife Susan of Maplewood, NJ, Patrick C. Sheridan and his wife Kristen of Franklin. Loving grandmother of Margaret, Nolan, Aidan, Judith and Philip. Sister of Sr. Anne D’Arcy CSJ of Framingham and the late Mary Caprio, the late Bishop John D’Arcy - former Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne, South Bend, Indiana. Aunt of Francis Caprio and Jacinta Lang.
Joan was a graduate of Boston Teacher College and received her masters in education at Boston College. While at B.C., she spent a summer as a volunteer teacher in rural New Mexico. She also taught in the Boston “Freedom Schools’ in the early 1960’s. She was a teacher in Chelsea and Newton Public Schools as well as St. Theresa School in West Roxbury. She was a daily communicant at St. Bartholomew Church and very vocal advocate for the rights of the disabled.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham, on Saturday, October 28, at 9am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Friday, Oct. 27, 4-7pm. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Joan’s memory to Disability Law Center, 11 Beacon St. Boston, MA 02108.
