Janice Marie Murphy passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 22, at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J Murphy Sr. with whom she was married to for 63 years before his passing in 2015. Janice is survived by her children Michael Murphy and his wife Debbie of Middletown RI, Brian Murphy of Taunton, Cathleen Catalano and Scott Brosnahan of Norton, Caren Frazier of Middleboro, Edward J Murphy Jr. of Raynham and Paul Murphy and his wife Lorraine of Taunton. She was the proud Grandmother (Nana) of 14, Great Grandmother of 11 and Aunt Jan to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her siblings Patricia Mcloughlin of Quincy and Roger Quilty and his wife Deb of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her brothers Paul Quilty of California, Dennis Quilty of Stoughton, and Hugh “Pete” Quilty of Quincy. Janice was born in Dorchester to the late Joseph and Grayce Quilty. After being a city girl her whole life, she moved to Raynham in 1964 and fell in love with it. Her neighbors became her second family. She worked in the Raynham and Bridgewater Raynham school system in special education classrooms where she both loved and was good at what she did. She spoke about her years there fondly long after and cherished the incredible friends she made there. She was a religious woman who loved the church and volunteering. She was proud to be the president of the St. Annes Woman’s Guild back in her earlier years. For many years, she loved helping out her dear friend Jan Gomes at her Country Curl hair salon and gabbing with the ladies. Janice loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and taking care of her grand dog. She was an avid reader, loved her adventures with Karen Jackson and Thursday dinners with Doris. She will be remembered for her strength, unconditional love and giving nature. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food pantry in her name.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church in Raynham on Tuesday, October 31st
