Henry E. "Hank" Burr, 90, of Putnam Pike, Greenville, passed away Friday, October 13th, 2023 with his wife and son by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Jane (Hill) Burr of 61 years. He was born New Britain, Connecticut but lived much of his retirement years in Charlestown, RI and then moved to Greenville, RI for his remaining years.
Born in 1933, he was the son of the late Emerson and Olga Burr and brother of the late Virginia Beyer Favry (Burr) and two nieces Annie Beyer Lee and Barbi Beyer Turino and their families .
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons Steven and Douglas, Doug’s wife Lisa, and three grandchildren, Hannah, Katie, and Rachel.
Hank loved golf and music throughout his life. He received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Boston University and received a Masters Degree from the University of Hartford (Hartt College Of Music). He taught high school band in Connecticut and New Jersey for 37 years receiving many awards for outstanding performances for his groups. His Ramapo Jazz Ensemble performed at the Music Educators National Conference in Boston in 1973 and his groups performed at the American School Band Directors Association Convention in Atlantic City in 1976. Hank was also conductor of the New Jersey All-State Jazz Ensemble in Atlantic City in 1989. In 1989 he received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, NJ. When Hank retired in Charlestown, he formed a group called the Coastline Swing Band which performed at many local restaurants for over 20 years. Hank was a composer and arranger for the band and the Annaquatucket Sax Quartet and Wakefield Concert Band.
