Antonino Giardina, age 96, of Somerville passed away on Monday, October 23rd, at Massachusetts General Hospital of Boston. Born and raised in Riesi, Caltanissetta, Sicily, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppa (D'Anna) Giardina. Antonino immigrated to the US in 1971, and has lived in Somerville ever since. He loved spending time in his garden and visiting with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Antonino was the beloved husband of the late Giuseppa (D’Anna) Giardina, and the devoted father of Giuseppe Giardina and his wife Angela of Everett, Calogero Giardina and his wife Tina of Florida, Salvatore Giardina of Somerville, Josephine Rowell and her husband Glen of North Andover, and the late Gaetano Giardina. He was the loving grandfather of Tony, Sal and Joey Giardina, Tony, Josephine and Marianne Giardina, Loretta, Anthony and Dale Denham, and the late Joseph Denham. Antonino is survived by six great grandchildren, and was the dear brother of Salvatore Giardina and his wife Madalena of Somerville, Giuseppa DiTavi of Italy and her late husband Antonio, the late Calogero Giardina and his late wife Giuseppa, the late Giuseppe Giardina and his surviving wife Maria of Italy, and the late Giavanna Giarratano and her late husband Luigi. Antonino is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 29th, from 4 through 8 PM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home on Monday, October 30th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford St., Somerville, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden.
